Supervisors and Young Workers workshops

If you are a supervisor you are responsible for the carrying out of work in a safe manner in the workplace. (SafeWork NSW 2022)

Young workers are at greatest risk of injury in the first months of employment, with injury risk reducing with tenure. (Bena et al 2013 & Morassaei et al 2013)

Youthsafe offers customised face-to-face workshops for supervisors and, separately, for young workers to minimise young worker injuries.

The following facts highlight the importance of this issue to businesses:

  • Safe Work Australia reports that one in five work injuries in Australia are incurred by young people under the age of 25 years.
  • The cost of work-related injuries and illness to young workers in Australia is $12 billion per year. (Safe Work Australia 2013).
  • On average, every 4 minutes and 24 seconds, a young person is injured in an Australian workplace (Safe Work Australia 2013).
  • In NSW alone, 15 workers in the 15 to 25 years age group are injured every day. (SafeWork NSW 2017)
  • Young workers are at greatest risk of injury in the first months of employment, with injury risk reducing with tenure. (Bena et al. and Morassaei et al. 2013)

Our supervisors’ workshops, in focusing on company-specific safety issues, seek to enhance the influence of supervisors with young workers through strength-based mentoring practices.

Our young worker workshops seek to build workers’ awareness of workplace risks and provide them with tips and strategies to become active contributors to an improved workplace safety culture.

All participants receive take home workshop resources to reinforce key learnings and give access to further information.
