Road Safety

Youthsafe recognises the high rate of serious injury to young people on our roads, and road safety remains a high priority for the organisation. As well as undertaking programs that directly target young road user issues, we are doing more to incorporate road safety into other areas of our work.

Road safety is addressed by Youthsafe in a number of ways including resources, research programs and the promotion of best practice initiatives.

While the team at Youthsafe works hard to incorporate road safety messages into all the projects, we also work on specific road safety initiatives due to its high impact on the safety and wellbeing of our young people.
Our interest in Learner Driver Mentor Programs lead us to further investigate these initiatives, that support young people getting their license with the assistance of volunteer supervising drivers.
Youthsafe has also been researching Safe Alternative Transport options for young people, to help them get around safely, particularly after a night out.

Plan2 is an excellent DVD resource produced to help young people explore options and develop strategies for getting around safely.
